A very Happy New Year to you all.

It gives me great pleasure to inform you that Inspector Nick Evans has recently been appointed District Inspector for Wrexham Rural the North Wales Policing district that the Ceiriog Valley falls under.

Many of you will know Nick as he resides in the Valley, and I am sure you will join me in wishing him well in his new role.

2011 was a challenging year for North Wales Police as we re-structured the Force in consideration of the current economic situation.

We have made every effort to ensure that the quality of service you receive in the Valley is maintained; as such resources are now deployed to cover the issues that concern you most.

Many of you participated in our 'Balance Your Bobbies' survey last year and your priorities [in percentage terms] are shown below, together with an overview of what we are doing to tackle these issues. If you disagree with the aforementioned priorities, you can influence the way we deploy resources in future, by having your say . Simply go onto the NWP website, follow the links through to Neighbourhood Policing and complete the BYB survey.

Road Safety 34%

Many of you will be aware of the time I invest in our Schools on Road Safety education and with Youth organizations running Cycling Proficiency courses etc.

My colleagues and I assist with Traffic Control at events that generate unusual volumes of traffic, such as the Glyn Carnival and we now deploy the speed gun on a regular basis to enforce the speed limits that are often ignored. We targeted drink drivers in the run up to Christmas and will continue to do so throughout 2012.

Drugs Related 23%

We gather Intel and act accordingly, in order to disrupt the supply of illegal substances and target users of the same. You may have seen Mollie our drugs ' sniffer' dog out and about on our random visits to hostelries in the village, this practice will also continue throughout the new year.

Some time ago I brought the 'Choose Life' drama to Glyn Ceiriog, a moving account of how substance misuse can destroy lives. It has since become a regular feature in our High Schools and is well worth seeing if you get the chance.

Theft and Burglary 17%

I have tried to resurrect the ailing Neighbour Hood Watch scheme and introduce OWL, the new Online Watch Link in parallel. Whilst this initiative hasn't been supported as well as I had hoped, you do favour me with sightings of suspicious persons and vehicles. I am certain therefore, that your continued vigilance has contributed to maintaining the current low levels of crime in the Valley.

Alcohol Related 15%

Under age ' test purchases' are conducted from time to time. Can I thank local Retailers and Hostelries for their continued co-operation in restricting the sale of alcohol to minors. Can I remind adults that it is an offence to buy alcohol on behalf of a minor for consumption in a Public place. As previously mentioned, drink driving will be high on our list of priorities for 2012.

Anti Social Behaviour 11%

In general, we enjoy very low levels of ASB, nevertheless my colleagues and I will continue to patrol the Village as often as possible.

On another subject; Dogs have become a concern once again. I have attended a number of incidents recently where dogs have been allowed to roam and have attacked livestock with devastating effect. Please please please, keep your dogs under control at all times. The vast majority of owners I hasten to add are responsible, they clear up their pets waste and respect the ' no go' areas for dogs, which include Parks, Playing Fields and Schools in accordance with the WCBC Dog Control Orders. Colleagues from Environmental Enforcement continue to patrol the village to deter dog fouling and littering.

For your convenience I will continue to be at the Ceiriog Memorial Institute at 6.30 p.m. immediately prior to the monthly Council Meetings should you have any Police related issues that you want to discuss. As always, I look forward to chatting to you whilst ' on the beat '.

Thank you for your continued support.
